Rehabilitation Medicine

Through Somerset Medical Center, patients of The Steeplechase Cancer Center have access to a variety of outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services tailored to the needs of cancer patients.

Our specialized services for cancer patients include:

  • Conquering Cancer Step by Step - An exercise program for patients touched by cancer.
  • A Lymphedema Treatment Program to reduce chronic swelling caused by the accumulation of lymph fluid in the body. Lymphedema occurs when the body’s lymphatic system doesn’t work properly. It may develop after surgery or radiation therapy, and is especially common in patients after breast cancer surgery.
  • Therapeutic Tai Chi, a series of slow, controlled movements typically performed standing. For cancer patients in particular, the movements can promote relaxation; reduce stress; improve arm, leg and trunk strength; improve balance and coordination; and improve breathing ability and decrease shortness of breath.
